Good to know

The best time to travel to Indonesia

As Indonesia lies on the equator, temperatures barely change throughout the year; only the rainfall depends on the season. We recommend visiting between April and October to get the least rain during your holiday. Although the trains mainly run to the biggest destinations on the island of Java, that doesn’t mean you should skip other parts of Indonesia.

There are lots of islands to visit in Indonesia, and regular ferries, flights and tour operators can take you there. Whether you want to watch the sunrise over a 9th-century Buddhist temple, witness the unique burial traditions of Sulawesi, feast on nasi goreng and rendang, hike up an active volcano or relax on one of Indonesia’s thousands of beautiful beaches – Indonesia has so much to offer, so why not make it another adventure by train!

  • High season: July to August
  • Low season: October to March
  • Dry season: May to September
  • Rainy season: October to April
